Welcome to Jodie's Place!

Welcome to my Home Page. My name's Jodie Landon. I am currently a sophomore attending Lawndale High School. Go Lions!

Here's a picture of me. My activities this year span a much broader range than ever before. I'm the sophomore class president, president of the Honor Society, chairwoman of the African-American student organization, an alto in the Lawndale High School mixed choir, a columnist for the school newspaper, The Lawndale Lowdown, and I tutor in English and Math. I guess if there's one word to describe me, it's well-rounded. Or motivated. Or ambitious. Then again, I guess there isn't just one word that can describe me.

Other than extra-curricular activities, I'm interested in politics- hopefully someday I'll realize a dream that my parents and I share, which is to be an influential woman in politics. I hope to prove to everyone that just because I am an African-American woman, there's no reason I can't be a successful politician.

School is also a big part of my life. I push myself to excel in every one of my subjects, even P.E., which I must admit isn't my favorite class. In the future, I see myself attending an accredited 4-year university and majoring in business while interning in politics.

However, school isn't my whole life. I have a boyfriend, Michael Jordan Mackenzie. Everyone calls him Mack. He's smart and successful - he's the captain of our football team, the Lawndale Lions. On the right is a picture of him. Mack and I do a cornucopia of interesting things together. We often double date with our friends Brittany and Kevin. Some of my other friends include Daria and Jane, who are smart but not exactly popular like all my other friends.

My class schedule is as follows. I'm proud to say that in spite of temptation, I've never cut a class or even been tardy, unlike Mack, who should have been caught but wasn't.

First Hour: Computer Literacy

Second Hour: Advanced Placement U.S. History

Third Hour: Honors Advanced Geometry

Fourth Hour: Honors English

Fifth Hour: Lunch (On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I tutor English in the Writing Center and on Fridays, Student Council meets.)

Sixth Hour: P.E.

Seventh Hour: Applied Economics

Eighth Hour: Honors Chemistry

I must admit, I'm not much for computers, but I had to create this homepage for Computer Literacy, an asinine requirement that every sophomore is required to pass for graduation. Part of this class is that one day a week, we get a class hour to 'surf' the internet. I've come across several sites worth visiting regularly, which is a positive thing- because I'm required to assemble a list of links on this home page project.

Academia

The College Board
In my upcoming years, there's nothing that will affect me so much as the College Board. Their site is brimming with information on the ACT, SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and the Advanced Placement program.

AP United States History
If only Mr. DeMartino would make a page as informative as this. It's a teacher's page with everything I'll need to know to capture that elusive '5.'

Harvard University | Princeton University | Yale University | Howard University
These are the four universities that I'm most interested in at the present. I also have an extensive list of second choices that includes Georgetown, Brown, Stanford, and Northwestern.

fastWEB Scholarship Search
It's never too soon to start looking for scholarships.

Music

Erykah Badu
She sings with such soul and feeling. I wish I could sing like her.

Toni Braxton
Another amazing sister. Her songs really touched me.

Mariah Carey
I wasn't ever really into her until this year, when I heard a couple of her new songs and really started to like her.

Janet Jackson
Janet's the Queen of Pop. The Velvet Rope is really introspective and worth buying.

Other Interests

The White House
Maybe some day I'll be living there. Who knows?

Women Executives in State Government
I'll be featured here. I guarantee it.

Democratic National Committee
Keep up to date on the work of the Democratic party and its beliefs.

National Organization of Women-NOW
Fight the Radical Right. I'm a card-carrying member.

Women On the Net- WON
A wonderful site for women of color.

Thanks for taking the time to visit Jodie's Place! Did you remember to order your yearbook and class ring?
