My name is Chris Smith (formerly, K-A-I-N, Souran, Wildcard, and currently known as Reese Kaine), and a long time ago, I was a regular at what was part of the holy trinity of the Daria fanbase. At the time of the final update, a new crop of fans were apearing at the forums, but going to other sites. Katherine was getting frustrated, and was also preparing to move on with her life. She announced on IRC that ALC was going to shut down, and I was heartbroken. I didn't want my home to be torn down, so I copied everything I could from the website before the doors were shut for the final time.
Katherine was not pleased to learn that I took as snapshot of the website prior to the site's closing, and asked me to not put it back online. A LOT of time has passed, and there's not a lot of the older fans around anymore. Even Katherine has moved on with her life, and will probably never see this message. I decided now was the time to restore the old website in an attempt to teach the newer fans what home was like to a lot of people ten years ago, through fanfiction, fan art, and outright goofyness.
Though I saved complete HTML pages and files, not all of the material made it through. Some of the material was already taken down when I started saving pages, so please don't be surprised when you see a dead link. I have no plans to alter someone else's code just to fix a few mistakes. When accessing a fanfic, please rename the URL extention from HTML to TXT. Please do not bother to @mail anyone listed in this website, as most likely, they do not exist anymore.

alt.lawndale.com will always be remembered as a mecca for quality fanfiction of the day, a museum for the art of the time, and a home for swanky yet rowdy Daria fans. I hope all of the newer Daria fans will take some time to understand what the fanbase was like, because without the past, what are we, exactly?
