Makeover Submission Guidelines

These are just a few guidelines for makeover submissions. I hope I don't sound too bitchy and stringent here, but these guidelines make my life a little easier. And it'll get your makeovers posted faster. Please take note of these. Okay? Thanks so much, you guys are super!

I've read all this, let me send in my makeover

Why Your Makover May Not Be On The Page

Even though I love receiving things from you all, because you are the people that make this site happen, there's a limitation that I have to put on makeover submissions. I've been receiving things that I don't consider makeovers. These can include 'scenes' and partial body makeovers.

This applies to Hotmail users: The Hotmail system sends images and attachments in a really bogus manner. It uses a system of UUencoding, which takes your image and translates it into ASCII text that appears in mail messages. I can handle it in small amounts. However, when someone tries to send me a 400K .BMP, it gets split by my mailer into about 35 seperate messages which I then have to reassemble. This is a royal pain in the ass. So, Hotmail users: unless your image is under about 30K, please don't send it through Hotmail's system. Upload it to a web address. It's really easy to get one on Geocities, Tripod, or even Angelfire. Then e-mail me the URL of the image. I'll personally play fetch and get it. Or use someone else's e-mail address that supports file attachments. Or get your own e-mail address. In any case, if I get huge UUencoded messages from Hotmail users, I'm just going to delete them.

Instructions on the basics of doing a makeover: Download the original image of the character off of the Character Bios page. Use the one that's on the left of the page, not the other image that may be on the page. Do that by clicking on the image and holding until a menu pops up, and select "Download To Disk" or right-click on the image and select "Download To Disk." Then open the image in a paint program like ClarisWorks or Paint Shop. After that, make your makeover- be sure it's to your satisfaction- and then send it in along with a few words telling me what it is. Wait a day or so, and check back- it should be on the makeovers page.
(This information is also available on the FAQ.)

Originality is KEY! That means no more goths. They've been done by no less than 3 people. No more Gwen Stefani. No more Daria and Jane -or ANYONE- in cheerleading uniforms. From now on, I'm only accepting first-time makeovers. Thanks for your cooperation.

I don't do makeovers based on other people's ideas anymore... but Justin Ruppel has agreed to do makeovers for people who have the ideas. E-mail him with your idea. Brandon Barkley will do makeovers for you as well. E-mail him with ideas. Want to do the same for others? Tell me.

Here's an example of an okay makeover, a partial body makeover, and a 'scene':

Makeover: The changing of the clothes or hair of a character has taken place. More than one can be included in the picture, though all included must be made over.

Partial Body Makeovers: These can become makeovers that will be added to the Makeovers page if the creator draws the remainder of the body in. Five of these have been done- two are in the makeover galllery and three in the 'Fun In The Sun" makeover book.

Scene: There's no apparent change in the clothing of appearance of the character, and conveys a 'scene' or a feeling, instead of a makeover.

Picky Things: If you are combining any Daria character with another non-Daria cartoon character, please provide the name of the character and the show that he/she is on. Don't assume that I know what cartoon character it is...I watch almost no TV other than Daria, Conan O'Brien, South Park, and the Simpsons. I'm familiar with some anime, but not all of it.

Don't type the name of the character or the caption for it on the image itself. That just makes the image file size larger, which translates into long download times for you and me. You can put character names/captions in the e-mail that you send along with the image. If you don't provide a caption, then you've left it up to my interpretation of the image. The same goes for your name- If I don't get a name or a nickname with your mail that you want credit given to, I'll use whatever name I can get from your e-mail address.

Why isn't my makeover on the page? I didn't want to have to do this, but because of the quantity of makeovers sent in, I'm now judging them on quality. This has to do with the crispness of the image- does it look like an actual outfit, or just blobs painted on Daria with Paintbrush? Do they look human? Is the image finished or just colored in? I'm not terribly picky, and I'm sure 90% of what's submitted will go in. But server space costs money. So please try and make a top-quality makover. Because a lot of times, they're really cool. And just because it isn't in the first time doesn't mean you can't clean it up and send it back in...So if your makeover isn't on the page after an update (and you know you sent it in and I didn't report any problems) then this is probably the case.

Now that this has been said and done, why not submit your own makeover?
