This is the area where (hopefully!) your question can be answered. If not, please e-mail it to me.

Note (not a question, but I have received e-mail about this)

I am not Daria. She does not run this site. You cannot e-mail her by mailing me. Jane does not run this site either. I am Katherine. I'm a student from the real world, not the ink-and-paint one. I do not work for MTV, but I do have contact with them. Please don't e-mail me telling me how cool my show is and how you have a sister exactly like mine. If you're still not convinced that Daria and I are separate entities with certain personality similarities (we're smart, sarcastic, considered dorks, and we think Trent is all right...) please visit Katherine's Domicile and convince yourself.

Daria is not a real person. She can't write you herself, or visit your hometown, or answer your question. MTV took viewer questions for Daria Day, but as of now, no more questions are being answered, so please don't send them to me.

The Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I send in my fan fiction scripts to MTV for them to use as an episode of Daria?

A: I asked MTV about this, and here's the response, straight from the e-mail...

There are a variety of reasons as to why we cannot accept script submissions, and I'll tell you them so you know that we aren't trying to be snobs! : )

First of all, for legal reasons, we cannot accept scripts in the mail or via the internet.

Also, we have a staff of full time writers whose job it is to come up with new scripts.

And finally, things here are always really hectic and busy, and our production schedule is so tight that there isn't even enough time to look at new submissions that are piling up from profesional writers SUBMITTED BY AGENCIES. So, basically, even if there weren't legal issues about accepting scripts, if everyone who wanted to show us a script sent it in, we'd be even more up to our ears than we already are!

But keep writing them, because I like them. Sure, I'm not MTV, but what the hell...

Q: Why isn't my makeover, caption, or fan fiction on the page yet?

A: The Updates section (plus the big red notice on the head of the front page) will tell you when the page was last updated, and the Updates page lists the actual additions/subtractions/modifications that took place. If the page hasn't been updated since you sent something in, then you won't find it on the page. And since I have a somewhat hectic schedule, the site sometimes doesn't get updated all that often. But I try. Really.

Fan fiction gets on the page as long as you send me a sizeable chunk to begin with. Two paragraphs just won't do...we're talking 5 or 6 pages, double spaced or 3 to 4 single spaced. And if you never finish your story, it may be taken down.
Makeovers go in 80% of the time (think of it this way- send me 10 makeovers and there's a chance that 2 won't be posted) but occasionally, I get a makeover that looks like it was drawn by a drunk llama. I'm sorry if yours didn't get in, but server space costs money and I'm being SLIGHTLY more frugal. If yours doesn't make it the first time, don't cry at me or call me a bitch. Just try again. Please keep sending them...for the most part they really rock ass.
Captions are a contest: the funniest ones are posted. You're welcome to submit as many as you like.

Q. Can you give me any of the voice actors' e-mail addresses?

A. No. They like their privacy, and I totally respect that. So I've told them that I won't give out their e-mail addresses, and I'm going to stick to that.

Q. What about MTV? Can you give me the e-mail of someone there?

A. No. I'm not going to post the e-mail of anyone I know at MTV. I know how busy working people are, and they don't need tons of e-mail from random people. However, if you e-mail me with a good question that I don't have an answer for, I'll pass it to them.

Q. How do I make a Daria Makeover?

A. Download the original image of the character off of the Characters page. Use the one that's on the left of the page, not the other image that may be on the page. Do that by clicking on the image and holding until a menu pops up, and select "Download To Disk" or right-click on the image and select "Download To Disk." Then open the image in a paint program like ClarisWorks or Paint Shop. After that, make your makeover- be sure it's to your satisfaction- and then send it in along with a few words telling me what it is. Wait a few days, and check back- it should be on the makeovers page if I think it looks nice. A Daria Makeover is not the characters wearing the same clothes thinking something. Please don't send those in.

Q: Can I send in an idea for a makeover, and if I do, will it be done?

A: I don't do makeovers for people. I don't have time. But there are people who will do makeovers for other people. If you have ideas, PLEASE send them to these artists, whose e-mail addresses are on the Makeover Guidelines page.. Ideas that come to me WILL be deleted. Check the Makeover Guidelines page for information.

Q. I want to join the Daria Webring. How do I do that?

A. Go to the Webring page. Fill out the forms, and follow the directions to configure the HTML and put it on your page. Then wait until you receive e-mail either saying that you're in the ring, or why you're not. This should happen in a day or two. Don't join if you don't have a Daria web page. Fans are welcome to every other place on the site, but without a complete, fully functional Daria web page, you won't be added.

Q. Will there ever be Daria merchandise?

Q: How do I make a web page? I don't understand how to do it.

A: I am not HTML support. There's plenty of that out on the web. If you use AOL, there's HTML help on there. Geocities and Tripod also offer HTML editors. Also, your local bookstore or library should have a plethora of HTML books. They're quite easy to understand. If you happen to live in the Yukon Territory and don't have a large bookstore nearby, amazon.com has a large selection of books on all things web-related.

But just so I can offer some help, here's a couple of links to HTML tutorials.

Q: How do I send pictures and files through e-mail? I want to send something in.

A: I'm not familiar with all e-mail systems. I use Eudora Light. To do this with Eudora, go to the Message menu and select Attach Document. Eudora Pro works the same way. On AOL, there's a button next to the To/From/CC: section that says Attach File. It looks like a disk taped to a letter. On Microsoft Mail, as far as I know, there's a paper clip icon to click, or use an Attach Document command. Juno doesn't support sending pictures. You'll have to check with your individual ISP- some don't permit sending pictures. Most of the big ones do. If you use a different mail program, consult the online help or the instruction manual. My new e-mail program easily handles UUencoded files and MIME attachments, so Hotmail and Geocities users should be in the clear. If you had my old address, don't send anything related to alt.lawndale.com in.

If you can't send e-mail picture attachments, you can upload them to a web server and send me the URL. I'll go to the page and download the pictures from there.

Q: How do I e-mail MTV?

A: I said before that I can't give out any specific direct e-mail addresses there. The one thing I can tell you to do is to go to the Feed Tubescan portion of the MTV.com website. I would guess that they probably read the feedback they get, but they don't respond to anything individually.

Q: I'm having trouble with some of the file formats on the Downloads page. Can you help me?

A: At the bottom of the Downloads page, there's a section dedicated to the obtuse and more common file formats that are on the Downloads page. It covers .ZIP, .SIT, .LZH, and .MP3. Consult it for help.
